Black Forest Cake
Black forest, also known as Kirschtorte, is a traditional cake that’s well loved by many throughout centuries. Historians belief that the cake originated in the 16th century in the Black Forest region in Germany (Der Schwarzwald in German) located in the state of Baden-Wttemberg.
The name, Schwarzwald, evokes darkness and mystery coming from the romantic German concept of Waldeinsamkeit, AKA forest-loneliness. During this era, chocolate was integrated into cakes and cookies. This region is known for its sour cherries and Kirsch or Kirschwasser (a double distilled, clear cherry brandy made from the sour Morello cherry). The Germans love for chocolates and their local famous cherries made them merge these two flavors along with cream to create this iconic traditional cake.
Now this cake is well known and loved by many. The combination of the chocolate, cream, and tartness of the cherries create a combination that’s loved by many! It’s definitely worth a try.
